Choosing the right size couch depends on your room layout and how you plan to use it. Here are some tips:

• Measure your space: Use a tape measure to check the length, width, and height where the couch will go.
• Consider doorways and hallways: Make sure the couch can fit through entry points.
• Think about seating needs: For large families or frequent guests, a sectional or U-shaped couch offers more space.
• Leave walking space: Aim for at least 18 inches between the couch and coffee table or other furniture.

Visualizing with painter’s tape on the floor can help you see how the couch will fit in your room.

Cleaning a fabric couch can help keep it looking fresh. Here’s a general approach:

• Vacuum regularly: Use a brush attachment to remove dust and debris from cushions and crevices.
• Spot clean stains: Check the manufacturer’s care tag for cleaning codes. Use a mild upholstery cleaner or a mix of water and gentle soap for most fabrics.
• Removable covers: If your couch has removable covers, follow the washing instructions on the label.
• Avoid soaking: Don’t oversaturate the fabric, as excess moisture can cause damage.

Always test cleaners on a hidden spot first to ensure colorfastness.

Modular couches can be a smart choice for small spaces because they offer flexibility. Here’s why:

• Customizable layout: You can arrange the sections to fit your room’s shape and size.
• Easy to move: Individual pieces are often lighter and easier to rearrange or transport.
• Multi-purpose: Some modular couches include features like hidden storage or sleeper options, which are great for maximizing space.

Be sure to measure your space and check the dimensions of each module before purchasing to ensure a good fit.

To help your couch stay in great shape, try these tips:

• Rotate cushions: Flipping and rotating cushions helps distribute wear evenly.
• Use armrest and seat covers: These can protect high-contact areas from spills and stains.
• Keep out of direct sunlight: Sun exposure can fade fabric or leather over time.
• Clean up spills quickly: Blot (don’t rub) spills right away to prevent stains from setting.

Regular care can extend the life and appearance of your couch.

Many modern couches are designed for easy assembly, but the process can vary:

• Check the instructions: Review the assembly guide included with your couch for specific steps.
• Tools: Some couches require only basic tools, which may be included in the package.
• Modular and boneless designs: These often require minimal or no assembly, making them more manageable for one person.
• Consider help for large pieces: For oversized or heavy couches, having an extra set of hands can make assembly safer and easier.
