I bought this expecting a set of shears that was going to be dofficult to use, would scare my dog, and end up having my dog looking like he was processed through a blender. I was wrong on every point. the unit is very qyuiet when in operation. My Yorkie was not bothered by the low hum in the least. He was not scared and allowed me to work around his face without being scared. I found the actual handpiece to be a little on the heavy side. That may be because I am a senior citizen and prefer lighter implements but it was not so heavy that I couldn't use it at all. I have used other pet trimmers in the past and my pets always looked like an amateur did the trimming. I was amazed with how nice my boy looked when I got done. No lines from the guides, all his hair was evenly trimmed, he wasn't traumatized by what I had done. The highest compliment came from my adult son. He actually thought my friend, a professional groomer, had groomed Buddy for me. I showed him my new clippers and he immediately asked me to do his dog. He told me that this was the best job I had ever done on any of our pets, and I couldn't agree more. The only thing I wish was better is the instruction manual. They could be clearer and some instructions on how to begin would be helpful. I will never return to the brands I formerly used. oh, and the fact that this is re chargeable and cordless just sealed the deal for me. I am in love with these shears and you will be too once you try them out.

My clipper aversive dog did great with these. A groom that normally takes several hours as we're both stressed out took barely an hour. These were so much quieter and than my other cordless and more powerful that I finished without needing to stop. Love the charging stand but it held a good charge the whole time.
