Sun catchers work by using crystals or specially cut glass to refract sunlight. When sunlight passes through the crystal, it bends and splits the light into its different colors, creating a rainbow effect on your walls or floors. For the best results, hang your sun catcher in a spot where it gets direct sunlight, like a south-facing window. The more facets or angles the crystal has, the more vibrant and scattered the rainbows will be. Remember, the effect depends on the strength and angle of the sunlight throughout the day.

The ideal spot for a sun catcher is anywhere that gets plenty of direct sunlight. Popular choices include:

• Windows facing south or east for morning and midday light
• Near glass doors or skylights
• On a porch or in a sunroom

Just make sure the sun catcher is securely hung and out of the way of pets or kids. If you want to enjoy rainbows indoors, a window with unobstructed sunlight is your best bet.

Yes, many sun catchers are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Hanging them in your garden, on a patio, or from tree branches can add a touch of sparkle and color to your outdoor space. Just check the product details to see if the materials are weather-resistant. Acrylic and glass sun catchers usually hold up well, but it’s a good idea to bring them inside during extreme weather to help maintain their shine and prevent damage.

To keep your crystal sun catcher sparkling, gently dust it with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, use a damp cloth with a little mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can scratch or dull the surface. Make sure to dry the crystal thoroughly before rehanging. If your sun catcher has metal parts, check that they’re dry to help prevent tarnishing or rust.
