Choosing the right size storage rack depends on your space and what you plan to store. Here are some tips:

• Measure your area: Check the height, width, and depth of the spot where you’ll place the rack.
• Consider your items: Think about the size and weight of what you’ll store—heavier items may need a heavy-duty rack.
• Adjustable shelves: Look for racks with adjustable shelves for flexibility.
• Access needs: Make sure there’s enough room to reach items easily.

Most metal shelving units are designed for easy assembly. Here’s a general approach:

1. Read the instructions: Start by reviewing the manual included with your rack.
2. Lay out all parts: Organize shelves, posts, and hardware before starting.
3. Use the right tools: Some racks require only a rubber mallet or basic hand tools.
4. Work on a flat surface: This helps keep everything level and stable.
5. Secure each shelf: Attach shelves one at a time, making sure they’re locked in place before moving to the next.

If you need extra help, Walmart’s website may offer assembly guides or videos for reference.

Stability is important for safety, especially with tall or heavy-duty racks. Here are some tips:

• Even weight distribution: Place heavier items on lower shelves to lower the center of gravity.
• Level placement: Set the rack on a flat, stable surface.
• Secure to the wall: If your rack has wall-mounting options, use the provided hardware to anchor it.
• Lock wheels: If your rack is on casters, make sure they’re locked when not moving the unit.

Following these steps can help reduce the risk of tipping and keep your storage area safe.

Many storage racks are suitable for basements or laundry rooms, but it’s good to check the material:

• Metal racks: Look for powder-coated or chrome finishes, which can help resist rust.
• Plastic racks: These are generally moisture-resistant and work well in damp areas.
• Wire shelving: Allows for airflow, which can help reduce moisture buildup.

Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions and avoid overloading shelves to maintain durability in humid environments.

Keeping your storage rack clean helps it last longer and stay looking good. Here’s how:

• Dust regularly: Wipe shelves with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dust and debris.
• Use mild cleaners: For tougher spots, use a gentle soap and water solution—avoid harsh chemicals that could damage finishes.
• Dry thoroughly: Especially for metal racks, make sure all parts are dry to prevent rust.
• Check for loose parts: Periodically tighten screws or bolts to keep the rack sturdy.

Regular care can help your rack stay functional and safe for everyday use.
