assembly was straightforward. the picture instructions were very detailed and i had more than enough of just about every piece of hardware. i chose to leave the center pannel out to see the wall color through and it still feels sturdy enough the im not worried about it falling apart. i also have it anchored to the wall with the provided hardware.

This is a really beautiful set of shelves. I was able to follow the directions and only needed help to place the top part onto the bottom and I am a 66 year old lady! I also had a bit of trouble at the end trying to figure out the bracing on the final step but finally got it. It look wonderful in my room and I would recommend this to anyone in need of shelving.
