A print rack is designed to help organize, display, or store artwork, prints, posters, or documents. You’ll often see them in art studios, galleries, classrooms, or offices. Print racks come in various styles, including portable folding racks, stationary racks with wheels, and even wall-mounted options. They’re great for keeping prints upright and separated, which helps prevent bending or damage. Some racks are made for larger canvases, while others are perfect for brochures or flyers. Choosing the right type depends on your space, the size of your prints, and how often you need to move the rack around.

The 70 30 rule in art is a guideline for creating visual balance. It suggests that about 70% of your artwork or display space should be dedicated to one main element, while the remaining 30% is for supporting details or negative space. This approach helps your main subject stand out and keeps the overall look from feeling cluttered. When arranging prints on a rack or wall, you might group larger pieces together and use smaller works or open space to complement them. This rule isn’t strict, but it can help your displays feel more intentional and visually appealing.

The 2 3 rule, also known as the two-thirds rule, is a simple way to decide how much wall space your art should cover. It means your artwork (or group of prints) should take up about two-thirds of the width of the furniture or wall area below it. For example, if you’re hanging art above a sofa that’s 6 feet wide, aim for your display to be around 4 feet wide. This helps create a balanced look and keeps your art from feeling too small or overwhelming for the space.

Storing a large number of prints safely is all about keeping them flat, clean, and protected from damage. Here are some tips:

• Use print racks or storage racks designed for artwork to keep prints upright and separated.
• Choose racks with dividers or slots to prevent prints from bending or sticking together.
• Store prints in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid fading.
• If stacking prints, place acid-free paper between them for extra protection.

Regularly check your prints for dust or moisture, and adjust your storage method if needed.

Choosing the right print rack depends on your needs and available space. Consider these factors:

• Size: Measure your prints and the area where you’ll place the rack to ensure a good fit.
• Mobility: If you need to move your prints often, look for racks with wheels or folding designs.
• Capacity: Think about how many prints or documents you want to store at once.
• Material: Metal and acrylic racks are durable and easy to clean, while wood can add a classic look.

Matching your rack to your workflow can help keep your prints organized and easy to access.
