Choosing the right hide-a-key lock depends on where you plan to use it and how many keys you need to store.

• Location: For outdoor use, look for weather-resistant or waterproof options.
• Capacity: Some lock boxes hold just one or two keys, while others can store several or even small items.
• Mounting: Decide if you want a portable lock box, one that attaches to a door knob, or a disguised option like a fake rock or garden ornament.
• Security: Consider models with combination codes or smart unlocking features for added peace of mind.

Think about your specific needs to find the best fit for your home or property.

Placement is key for both convenience and security.

• Out of direct sight: Tuck the lock box in a spot that’s not immediately visible from the street, like behind a planter or on a side fence.
• Weather protection: Choose a location that’s sheltered from rain and direct sunlight to help the lock last longer.
• Accessibility: Make sure it’s easy for you or trusted guests to reach, but not obvious to strangers.
• Disguised options: Consider using a fake rock or garden ornament to blend in with your landscaping.

Always avoid obvious spots like under the doormat or above the door frame.

Most combination key lock boxes let you set or reset the code, but the process can vary.

• Open the lock box using the current code.
• Look for a reset lever or button inside the box—this is usually clearly marked.
• Move the lever or press the button, then set your new code.
• Return the lever or button to its original position to lock in your new combination.

Always check the instructions that come with your specific lock box, as steps may differ. If you’ve misplaced the manual, many brands offer digital copies online.

Many hide-a-key lock boxes and disguised containers can hold more than just keys.

• Small valuables: Some models have enough space for cash, jewelry, or access cards.
• Documents: Compact papers like emergency contact info or instructions can fit in larger boxes.
• Other items: Just make sure whatever you store is weather-resistant if the box is kept outdoors.

Always check the product’s size and intended use to make sure it fits your needs and keeps your items protected.

Keeping your lock box clean helps it last longer and work smoothly.

• Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
• For combination dials or buttons, use a soft brush to clear out dust.
• If it’s waterproof, check the seals for buildup and gently clean them.
• Don’t use harsh chemicals, as they can damage the finish or seals.

Regular cleaning, especially after storms or heavy use, can help your lock box stay in good shape and keep your spare keys secure.
