I used the multi slicer to julienne a large zucchini. It took just minutes instead of more than half an hour the first few times I tried it with a knife, and with much more satisfactory results. It sliced the zucchini easily and evenly into thin strips to resemble pasta. I wasn't sure if it was dishwasher safe (no label on the box), so I opted to hand wash, which was very easy using a soft brush. The slicer is sturdy, fits securely over a bowl, and makes clean, even cuts. I haven't used it yet with cucumbers or celery, but I think it will work well. I also tried it with potatoes. It produced thin, even slices, but didn't slice thin enough for potato chips. By the way, this zucchini "pasta" salad is yummy. I did not use the slicer for the rest of the ingredients. I added sliced olives, fresh chopped basil, sliced cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, capers, and a dressing of minced garlic soaked in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil for about 20 minutes. Saason with salt and pepper to taste. You could add bacon or cooked shrimp also.

I share the same sentiment of similar reviewers who rated this product poorly. I bought this for use in prepping food for one of my pets that requires a daily diet of shredded vegetables, and while this product was sharp to begin with, the blades bent easily, and dulled quickly. The plastic body of this mandolin was also quite flimsy and flexible which gave easily while cutting parsnips. The first use produced mangled vegetable shreds, and several bent blades. The poorly secured cutting attachments also produced a fair bit of frustration, and the gripper handle does not function as suggested. Rather than holding the vegetables in place, it slides over the top of them, I put it to the side and used my hand to hold the vegetables. Having used professional mandolins in the food industry, the price for this does not even compare to the lack of quality. This product was returned to the store after two uses, and another, better quality one will replace it.

Surprisingly Great Slicer for the Price

I had been looking at mandoline slicers, but didn't want to pay $50 or more for something I wouldn't use that often. The reviews on this slicer were good, and for less than $10, I thought I'd give it a try. Worst case, I was only out $10. I'm pleasantly surprised at how sturdy this slicer is. It's not fancy, you can't adjust the slice size, etc... but it does what it's supposed to. Slices easily (incredibly sharp blade# and quickly. I can't comment on its long term durability, but I've used it every night this week #we're deydrating a bunch of vegetables) and it's working great. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a basic-model slicer without hesitation.

About a year ago, I purchased one of these for myself. This has been a great little slicer to have for veggies. Recently, I bought one for my mom's bday and simply filled out the pick up at store feature to have my dad pick it up in my hometown instead of having to ship it! What a great service and my dad was happy with how quickly he was able to get in, pick it up, and take it home.

Good product. Not my first slicer. It is worth more than 10 buck and is well made, looks good, and slices well. A product that delivers exactly as it should and holds up well. Why pay more?

    Blades Go Dull Pretty Quickly

I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my girlfriend. Each of us only used them for slicing vegetables like zucchini and potatoes. The blades seemed to go dull fairly quickly. For ten bucks, you can't expect the moon, but having to replace this so quickly makes me think that it's likely better to spend a few more bucks, to get something that'll last longer.

Love this little slicer! Super sharp---so much easier and safer than using a knife. I was a little leary that this may not be a good thing to purchase because it is only $10. It is sturdy, easy to clean, doesn't take up much space---I am very impressed. I do recommend this slicer. Would make a great shower/wedding gift.

I bought this product based on price and availability to hopefully make cutting some potatoes more uniform and easier. I didn't have real high expectations for the unit because of the price point. Was I in for a surprise! After the first few runs over the blade I was sure that the potato was slipping over the blade without being cut. Was I in for a surprise! It was cutting perfectly uniform slices with the greatest of ease! It made short work out of the chore (and the potatoes too)! Without a doubt the blade on this has to be the single sharpest commercial blade I've ever bought! For the money this is an unbelievable product, if you need a veggie slicer for occasional use this is the tool for you!

I bought mine almost 4 years ago and have used it all the time. I am actually looking to buy a new one because the blade has finally gotten dull and the chopper blades bent when my son stepped on the insert one night-got knocked to the floor by the cat I guess. This slicer has been used for everything from slicing cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and even peeling the cucumbers and potatoes. I could not give this a higher recommendation unless there was a way to replace the blade.

    • A. Yes, this product does slice apples perfectly. You can use an apple corer first to core the apple, which I think is best, and then use the slicer to create perfectly sweet slices with or without the peeling. I love monterey jack cheese and apples. It is a great combination.

    • A. Yes it will mince onions. That is one of the great features I love about this product. To mince onions, slice the onion one direction through the chopper blade (large or small depending on the size you need) then rotate 1/4 of a turn and go that direction through the chopper blade, then go back to the original direction. Each slice is alternated until you mince the amount of onion you need.
