Veradek Brixton Railing Window Box 36" Plastic Planter 2-Pack Gray

Must be honest, when I ordered this planter, my primary criteria was material strength. I was tired of buying brittle plastic planters that rarely lasted more than one season. Actually, it is more stoutly built than what I was expecting so I am very pleased on that account. HOWEVER, I did not realize that this was a planter designed to be wall-mounted on a house. No wonder the materials are industrial strength. I will not be using the wall mounting brackets, but they appear more than sufficiently strong to support the planter, plus the dirt and plants that will growing in them.

This is the third type of window box I have purchased. The one type I purchased is actually designed to set on the ground, which is what I do with all my planter boxes – see picture. When I received this in the mail, the first thing I noticed was the weight. It is considerably heavier than my other planter boxes. When I opened the box, I saw why. Included with this is an outer planter box, a bottom riser that mounts on the bottom, and inner planter basin that fits inside the outer planter box, three self-watering trays that fit inside on the bottom, and an assortment of bracket hardware in a separate box. The included instructions are quite clear on the assembly procedure. This particular box is designed to mount over a railing. The other planter I purchased mounts with screws into the outside of the building you are mounting it on. That means, for this box, you will need some sort of railing mounted under the window or wherever you want to mount this. For me, this is not an issue as I plan to set it on my deck. The water trays make this a self-watering box as they provide a space for water to accumulate. There are also raised drain holes, so you don't have to worry about the box filling up with water. My other box has hollow walls for the water to accumulate in. The document insert indicates that this box is weather resistant, crack proof, fade resistant, and scratch resistant. I have to note that because of the plastic insert that goes inside of the box, you will have less space for ground. I would say that it holds about one-half cubic foot of soil. This means that you will probably be looking at planting smaller plants in this, which is fine. Overall, this is an excellent planter box for under the window or on a deck.
