Choosing the right padlock size depends on what you're securing. Smaller padlocks are great for lockers or luggage, while larger, heavy-duty locks work well for gates, sheds, or storage units. Check the shackle diameter and clearance to make sure it fits your hasp or chain. If you're unsure, measure the opening where the lock will go and compare it to the product specs. Walmart's product pages often list these details, so you can match your needs easily.

Many round padlocks are designed for outdoor use, but it's important to check for features like weather-resistant coatings or covered shackles. These help protect against rain, snow, and rust. Look for locks labeled as 'outdoor' or 'weather-resistant' in the product description. If you're securing a shed, gate, or storage unit outside, these features can help your lock last longer and stay reliable.

Resetting a combination padlock usually involves a few steps. First, open the lock using the current combination. Then, look for a reset lever or button—often found inside the shackle or on the back. Follow the instructions provided with your lock to set a new code. If you lose the instructions, many manufacturers offer guides online. Always choose a combination that's easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.

To keep your padlock working smoothly, wipe the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. For tougher grime, use mild soap and water, but avoid soaking the lock. Dry it thoroughly afterward. If the lock feels stiff, a small amount of lubricant on the shackle and keyhole can help. Avoid harsh chemicals, as they might damage the finish or internal parts. Regular cleaning can help extend the life of your lock.

If you need replacement keys, check the product packaging or manufacturer's website for instructions. Some padlocks come with a key code that lets you order replacements directly. If you bought your lock at Walmart, you can reach out to customer service for guidance. Keep your key code handy, as it's often required for ordering new keys. Not all locks offer replacement keys, so review the product details before purchasing.
