Choosing the right size padlock depends on what you need to secure. Smaller locks are great for lockers, toolboxes, or luggage, while larger locks can handle gates or storage units. Check the width of the lock body and the length of the shackle to make sure it fits your hasp or latch. If you’re not sure, measure the opening where you’ll use the lock and compare it to the product details. At Walmart, you’ll find a variety of sizes to match different needs, so you can shop with confidence.

Many small padlocks are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, but it’s important to check the product description for weather resistance.

• Stainless steel and covered padlocks often handle rain and humidity better.
• Look for features like rust-resistant coatings or weatherproof covers.

Some small padlocks, especially combination models, offer a resettable feature. This means you can set your own code for added convenience.

• Check the packaging or product details to see if the lock is labeled as "resettable."
• Instructions are usually included, and the process often involves opening the lock and using a reset tool or button.

To help your padlock last, regular maintenance is a good idea.

• Wipe off dirt and moisture with a dry cloth.
• Apply a small amount of graphite or silicone-based lubricant to the keyway or shackle if it feels stiff.
• Avoid using oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dust.

If you lose a key to your padlock, options may vary.

• Some locks come with multiple keys in the package.
• Replacement keys are sometimes available through the manufacturer, but you’ll usually need the lock’s model number and key code.
