Yes, filberts and hazelnuts refer to the same type of nut. The name "filbert" is often used in some regions, while "hazelnut" is more common in others. Both terms describe the edible nut produced by the hazel tree. When shopping at Walmart, you'll notice products labeled with both names, but they're the same delicious nut, whether you use them for snacking, baking, or cooking.

The term "filbert" comes from European traditions and is believed to be linked to St. Philibert's Day, which falls around the time hazelnuts are harvested. Over time, the name stuck in certain areas, especially in Europe and the Pacific Northwest. So, when you see "filberts" and "hazelnuts" on Walmart's shelves, just know it's a matter of tradition and regional preference—they're the same nut!

• Chop or grind: Add chopped or ground filberts to cookies, cakes, or muffins for extra crunch and flavor.
• Roast for depth: Roasting filberts before baking can bring out a richer, nuttier taste.
• Decorate: Use whole or halved filberts to top desserts for a decorative touch.

Filberts pair well with chocolate, fruit, and spices. Always check for any allergy concerns before sharing baked goods with others.

Hazelnuts are naturally low in sugar and can fit into a variety of eating plans. They're a source of healthy fats, fiber, and protein, which may help you feel full between meals. However, if you have specific dietary needs or health conditions, it's a good idea to check with a healthcare professional before making changes to your snack choices.

• Keep them cool: Store filberts in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to help maintain freshness.
• Refrigerate or freeze: For longer storage, refrigerate or freeze them to prevent the natural oils from going rancid.
• Avoid moisture: Moisture can cause filberts to spoil more quickly, so always keep them dry.

Following these tips can help you enjoy your filberts at their best for a longer time.
