I bought this for my husband, the chef for Christmas! Our old one had no top and it was quite old. This new upgraded version was a welcome surprise and we are both happy with it. He made a fabulous chili as his first dish after receiving it. Slow cookers can make an inexpensive cut of beef taste very tender and delicious using long slow cooking. This is a good size for families to use. You cook in it then serve from it and can put it in the refrigerator after cooling. That is multifunctional, convenient and attractive. You could cook a pot roast in this slow cooker and it will be tenderized.
