i have a cat that loves to claw at rugs and so far this rug has held up. if you don't have heavy furniture holding it down, i highly suggest getting a rug pad. i have really light floors and i haven't noticed any dirt or fibers coming from the jute. overall, really great rug!

It is a natural, woven rug and does have a slight woodsy odor once unpackaged but this disipates over time. I was very pleased to find that the rug has a good thickness to it that when walked on, feels very cushioned. I would definitely recommend this rug.
