The Meritorious Service Medal cannot be awarded for service in a combat theater. It has often been the decoration of choice for both ends of tour and retirement recognition for field grade officers and senior enlisted personnel. The criteria of this service medal are outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement or service to the US and were instituted in 1969. This ribbon is worn with Bronze, Silver Oak Leaf Cluster devices on Army/Air Force uniforms and Gold, Silver Star; Coast Guard: Silver Letter on Navy/Marines uniforms. Come unmounted and holding bars are sold separately from ribbons. Approved by the US Military and are of the highest government standards. Meritorious Service Medal ribbons are made in the USA by US Veterans.
