KOHLER Alteo Pivoting Toilet Paper Holder Polished Chrome Contemporary Design

I so wanted this to work. It's not only attractive but it matches the rest of the suite I bought. But there is a fundamental design/manufacturing flaw and, as others have noted, it will NEVER sit flush against the wall. Each end has an underlying mounting piece that attaches to the wall, and the decorative part fits over them. These mounts have a short post sticking out so the decorative ends can be attached with an Allen wrench. After my builder--a man with over 30 years experience; he knows how to attach a toilet-paper holder--had tried several times unsuccessfully to get this to mount flush, he looked at it more closely and started measuring. On the end of the unit that doesn't have the pivot arm, that mounting projection is about 2mm too long for the opposing hole in the decorative cover. It can NEVER seat properly. It's like putting a 6" straw into a 5" high glass. It will *always* protrude. I reluctantly had to return it and buy something else. The gap was simply unacceptable. This is a fundamental manufacturing/tooling issue. This unit can't ever sit flat against the wall, by design. Until Kohler fixes this issue, it can't ever be mounted flush and will never look right. Honestly, Kohler, I'm disappointed. You've always been better than this.

I purchased this for a bathroom remodel because it looked great. In receiving it, trying to unscrew the part that needed to turn was near impossible and almost caused injury to my hand. When I finally got it unscrewed and the whole thing installed, it did not sit flush with the cabinet. The part that hinges is too long and doesn't allow for appropriate flush installation. While I know there has to be some space so it can hinge without damaging cabinet, the amount of space is frankly too much. This is is a very disappointing product and not what I had come to expect from the Kholer brand. I would not recommend this.
