No "brushes" so it IS quiet even on high speed. You can unscrew the front grill to clean the blades that are transparent. I am so satisfied that I will buy four more, two for my bedroom (for summer) and one for the living room upstairs and bedroom downstairs. It's a new product and I love it! I placed them behind the fireplace to distribute the warm air.
