____ this particular item is the first 'cuttlebone' I have ever purchased; as such I cannot comment on how it compares to any other brand/item like it. That being said, I have no current complaints. I have bought a few (maybe 5?) by now, and I buy them not for a bird, but for my Invertebrate habitat/enclosure.
I currently am keeping (learning and observing) a group of 'Three Banded Garden Slugs', isopods, and white springtails --- so the cuttlebone is for *their* calcium needs. ----------- I have not used the little metal clasp that comes with it, so I cannot vouch for how effective it is for its intended purposes. For me, I think the value is worth the purchase, as the majority of what I need for my habitat enclosure I free-source on my own in nature, but when it comes to the calcium, I wanted to make sure they had something "legit", and the cost was right for me. I frequently see an isopod grazing on one of the chunks I put in their home, as well as a little sluggy friend, so it's nice to know that they are indeed self-sustaining their needs. I'm not seeing evidence of molting-issues with the isopods, and that's at least one way to know that they're getting enough calcium in their new indoor home. ----------- Last thing of note: these cuttlebones are being used in a consistently damp/humid enclosure ... as such, I replace them more than someone likely would need to if they were being used for birds (???) -- that's just a guess. And honestly, I still need to remember to look up how to know when a dampened cuttlebone actually needs replacing. ------- I appreciate that I can count on a consistent size, that Walmart will 'ship' these to me (I don't have transportation at present to do pick-ups), and that they are enclosed in packaging is nice (as opposed to a product being exposed to random environmental elements ?? I dunno, is that even a thing with cuttlebone products?? lol) ------------ Anyway, Like I said: no complaints on my end. I think this is a great grab for someone who might want to experiment with a cuttlebone for their various needs prior to purchasing a bulk-order somewhere, as well .... see if it works for your bird, or other pet, or whatever you need it for. :-) I don't have a photo with an "active grazing", but I just took one for this review and you might be able to see one of the white chunks of cuttlebone in there...
