When the ice first comes out (post-vinegar rinsing process) it's actually soft more than crunchy, but if you leave it to sit and pile up, it takes on that crunchy/crumbly texture many of us associate with nugget ice. The design is also great since the melting ice can drip through the grate in the collection tub and feed back into the water reservoir for the ice maker.

Works as prescribed. It makes noise but it's about the same as the others that o have bought. I really enjoy that the drain is at the bottom of the device instead of draining by the hose for some others. Oh, the fact that the top comes off without have to use a tool makes cleaning it easy. I am using distilled water. I will return to review later, if that becomes an issue but so far so good. Distilled water doesn't have the minerals of tap or filter so, it not supposed to develop the white mineral deposits. Just an FYI .
