It does have a very 'oil rubber smell" upon first opening, but that is to be expected considering...it's made of rubber lol.I have full confidence the smell will wear off in time. I never fully trust that dumbless and weight plates are true to weight, so I always weigh them. These were accurate..10lbs. Im very pleased with these weights. They came on time, were not over priced and are true to size.
