This item has done a great job stopping my snoring by pulling my toung forward. It has also stopped me accidentally biting the inside of my cheeks with my molars. The outside ridge can either be placed directly against your teeth or on the outside of your mouth. It was a little difficult getting use to the way it fits underneath the tounge. It's more comfortable to me when the ridge sits on the outside of the lips.

I've tried a number of different snoring remedies over the years, including taping my mouth shut (which works a little bit and helps to train you to learn to breathe through your nose) and inserting a retainer-like device over your teeth to move your lower jaw forward (PAINFUL, TERRIBLE IDEA with no measurable results!). I was seriously considering a CPAP machine when I stumbled onto the concept of devices that hold and pull your tongue forward and out as you sleep. The theory is that this will pull the base of the tongue away from the back of your throat, helping to open up your airway. I read severable favorable reviews and discovered that this device is relatively inexpensive through Walmart, so I gave it a try. Amazingly, it works! But don't kid yourself...it's not easy to get used to having something in your mouth while you're trying to go to sleep. The first several nights were very difficult and I nearly gave up trying. In the beginning I kept salivating after inserting it, keeping me awake. Several times I woke up with the device sitting beside me and the corner of my pillow still wet. But after a while it actually worked, even if at first it only lasted for a couple of hours during the night. Eventually I learned to more-forcefully insert my tongue well into the device so it wouldn't move or fall out. I now find that air passes through my throat much easier with the device in. If you've tried everything else and nothing has worked, this might be worth a try. But give yourself several weeks before giving up. I now actually look forward to wearing the device because I know that it will help me breathe better through the night.
