Choosing the right size netting depends on your project. Start by measuring the area you want to cover, including height and length. Consider what you’re trying to keep in or out—smaller mesh sizes work well for tiny animals or birds, while larger mesh is great for bigger pets or garden protection. Also, think about the strength you need; thicker gauge wire offers more durability. If you’re unsure, it can help to bring your measurements to the store or check the product details online for guidance.

Yes, many types of poultry and hardware netting are designed for chicken coops. Look for netting with a mesh size small enough to keep chickens in and predators out. Galvanized or PVC-coated options can offer extra durability, especially outdoors. Make sure to secure the netting tightly to your coop frame and check for any gaps. If you’re building a run, consider burying the bottom edge a few inches underground to help prevent digging animals from getting in.

Installing garden netting is pretty straightforward. First, unroll the netting and cut it to the length you need. Use sturdy stakes or posts at the corners and along the sides for support. Attach the netting with zip ties, wire, or garden clips, making sure it’s pulled tight to avoid sagging. For extra stability, secure the bottom edge with landscape pins or bury it slightly. Always wear gloves when handling wire netting to protect your hands from sharp edges.

To help prevent rust, choose netting that’s galvanized or PVC-coated, as these finishes add a protective layer. When installing, avoid scratching or bending the wire too much, since damage can expose the metal underneath. If you notice any spots where the coating is worn, you can touch them up with a rust-resistant spray. Regularly check your netting, especially after storms or heavy use, to catch any early signs of rust and address them quickly.

Many types of garden and hardware netting are designed with pet and small animal safety in mind. Choose a mesh size that’s small enough to prevent escapes but not so small that it could trap paws or noses. Smooth, coated wire can be gentler on animals than bare metal. Always check your enclosure regularly for sharp edges or loose wires, and make repairs as needed to keep your pets safe and comfortable.
