Using a digital multimeter is pretty straightforward once you know the basics. First, turn the dial to the setting you need—like voltage, resistance, or continuity. Plug the black lead into the 'COM' port and the red lead into the port for what you're measuring. For voltage, touch the leads to the circuit or battery terminals. The screen will show the reading instantly. Always start with the highest range if you're unsure, and make sure the device is powered off when measuring resistance or continuity. Read the manual for safety tips and never test live wires unless you're confident in your skills.

A digital voltmeter measures the electrical potential difference between two points in a circuit.

• It displays voltage readings on an LCD screen.
• You can use it for both AC and DC voltage checks.
• It's handy for troubleshooting electrical issues in home, automotive, or DIY projects.

To read voltage, set your multimeter to the correct voltage setting (AC or DC). Plug in the leads—black to 'COM' and red to 'V'. Touch the probes to the two points you want to measure. The screen will show the voltage.

• For household outlets, use the AC setting.
• For batteries, use the DC setting.

When shopping for a digital multimeter, consider these features:

• Clear LCD display for easy reading
• Auto-ranging for convenience
• Multiple functions (voltage, current, resistance, continuity)
• Safety ratings for your intended use
• Durable build and comfortable grip

Yes, you can use a digital voltmeter to check car battery voltage. Set your meter to DC voltage, connect the black probe to the battery's negative terminal and the red probe to the positive.

• A healthy battery usually reads around 12.6 volts when the car is off.
• If the reading is much lower, the battery may need charging or replacement.
