A pot with two handles is often called a stock pot, Dutch oven, or casserole pot, depending on its shape and material. These double-handled pots are designed for easy lifting, even when full, and are great for cooking soups, stews, pasta, and more. The two handles help distribute weight evenly, making them practical for both stovetop and oven use. You’ll find them in materials like stainless steel, enamel, and cast iron, each suited for different cooking needs. When shopping, consider what you’ll cook most to choose the right style for your kitchen.

To check if a two-handled pot is oven safe, look for labels or markings on the pot or packaging that specify oven safety.

• Many stainless steel and enameled cast iron pots can go in the oven, but always check the manufacturer’s guidelines.
• Pay attention to handle materials—silicone, metal, or enamel handles are usually oven safe up to certain temperatures, while plastic or wood handles may not be.
• Glass lids often have temperature limits, so review those as well.

The main difference is in size, weight, and intended use:

• One-handled pots (like saucepans) are smaller and designed for tasks like boiling or simmering small amounts of food.
• Two-handled pots (like stock pots or Dutch ovens) are larger, built for cooking bigger batches, and the dual handles make lifting safer and easier, especially when the pot is heavy or hot.

Choosing between them depends on what you cook most often and how much food you typically prepare.

Many two-handled pots are compatible with induction stoves, but not all.

• To work on induction, the pot’s base must be magnetic—stainless steel and cast iron usually qualify.
• Check the product description or look for an induction symbol on the packaging.
• If you’re shopping online at Walmart, you can filter for induction-compatible cookware to make sure you’re getting the right pot for your stove.

Cleaning your two-handled pot properly helps it last longer.

• Let the pot cool before washing to avoid warping.
• Use warm, soapy water and a soft sponge to clean most surfaces.
• Avoid abrasive pads, especially on nonstick or enamel finishes.
• For stuck-on food, soak the pot or use a gentle baking soda paste.
• Check if your pot is dishwasher safe—many are, but hand washing can extend their life.
