A trigger start torch uses a built-in ignition system, so you can light the flame with just a squeeze of the trigger—no need for matches or a lighter. This design makes starting the torch quick and convenient, especially if you're working with one hand or in tight spaces. Many people find trigger start torches easier and safer to use because you can control ignition and shut-off instantly. Just remember to always follow the manufacturer's safety instructions and check that your fuel cylinder is attached properly before use.

The color of a torch cylinder usually indicates the type of gas inside.

• Yellow cylinders often contain MAP-Pro or MAPP gas, which burns hotter and is used for tasks like brazing or heavy-duty soldering.
• Blue cylinders typically hold propane, which is great for general heating, light soldering, or DIY projects.

To use a propane torch with trigger start:

1. Attach the torch head securely to the propane cylinder.
2. Open the gas valve slightly to allow fuel flow.
3. Point the nozzle away from yourself and others, then squeeze the trigger to ignite the flame.
4. Adjust the flame as needed using the control knob.
5. When finished, turn off the gas and let the torch cool before storing.

It’s possible to braze some metals using only propane, especially for smaller or lighter jobs. Propane torches can reach temperatures high enough for certain brazing rods, but they may not be suitable for thicker metals or heavy-duty work. For more demanding tasks, a hotter gas like MAP-Pro might be needed. Always check your torch and brazing rod compatibility, and make sure to work in a safe, well-ventilated area with proper protective gear.

When using a trigger start torch, keep these safety tips in mind:

• Work in a well-ventilated area to avoid gas buildup.
• Wear protective gloves and safety glasses to shield from sparks and heat.
• Keep flammable materials away from your workspace.
• Check for gas leaks before igniting by listening and smelling for escaping gas.
• After use, turn off the gas and let the torch cool before storing it safely.
