A square driver is a hand tool designed to drive screws with a square-shaped recess, often called Robertson screws. These drivers are popular for:

• Furniture assembly
• Home improvement projects
• Automotive repairs
• Working with pocket hole joinery

The square shape helps reduce slipping and cam-out, making it easier to apply torque and keep the screw steady. You’ll often find square drivers in multi-bit sets or as individual bits for power tools and manual screwdrivers.

Choosing the right size square driver depends on the screw you’re working with. Here’s how to match them up:

1. Check the screw head for a size marking (like #1, #2, or #3).
2. Match the driver bit to the screw’s size—using a bit that’s too small or too large can strip the screw or damage the tool.
3. If you’re unsure, try fitting the bit into the screw head; it should fit snugly without wobbling.

Many multi-bit sets include several square driver sizes, so you’ll have options for different projects.

Yes, many square driver bits are designed to work with power drills and impact drivers. To use them safely:

• Choose a bit with a shank that fits your tool’s chuck (usually 1/4-inch hex).
• Insert the bit securely to prevent slipping.
• Start at a low speed to avoid stripping the screw or damaging the material.

Always check your tool’s manual for compatibility and safety tips before use.

Maintaining your square driver helps it last longer and work better. Here are some tips:

• Wipe down the tool after use to remove dust and debris.
• Store it in a dry place to prevent rust.
• Inspect the tip for wear—replace bits that are rounded or damaged.
• Avoid using the driver on screws it’s not designed for, as this can cause premature wear.

Regular care can help your tool stay reliable for future projects.

Replacement square driver bits are widely available at most hardware stores and online retailers, including Walmart. When shopping for replacements:

• Check the size and type you need (such as #1, #2, or #3).
• Look for bits compatible with your screwdriver or power tool.
• Consider multi-bit packs if you use different sizes for various projects.

Having extra bits on hand can help you tackle repairs or assembly jobs without delay.
