Choosing the right socket set depends on what you plan to work on.

• If you're tackling car repairs, look for sets with both SAE and metric sizes to cover a wide range of bolts.
• For home projects, a smaller set with common sizes might be enough.
• Consider the drive size—1/4-inch is great for lighter tasks, while 1/2-inch handles heavier jobs.
• Check for extras like ratchets, extension bars, and spanners for added versatility.

Review the set's components to make sure it fits your needs before buying.

SAE sockets measure in inches, while metric sockets use millimeters.

• SAE is common for older American vehicles and equipment.
• Metric is standard for most modern cars and appliances.
• Having both types in your set means you’re ready for any project, whether it’s automotive or household.

Check your bolts to see which system you need, or grab a set that includes both for maximum flexibility.

Many spanner and socket sets are designed for automotive work.

• Look for sets with a variety of socket sizes and drive options, like 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch, to handle different bolts and nuts.
• Impact sockets are helpful for tougher jobs.
• Sets with ratchet handles and extension bars make reaching tight spots easier.

Always check the set’s description to confirm it’s suitable for your specific car repair tasks.

Staying organized helps you find tools quickly and prevents loss.

• Most sets come in a durable plastic case with labeled slots for each piece.
• After use, return each socket and tool to its designated spot.
• If your set doesn’t have a case, consider using a toolbox or tray with dividers.

Regularly check for missing items and wipe tools clean before storing to keep your set in top shape.

Keeping your tools clean extends their life and performance.

• Wipe sockets and ratchets with a dry or slightly damp cloth after use.
• For stubborn dirt, use mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
• Apply a light oil to moving parts of ratchets for smooth operation.

Store tools in a dry place and avoid harsh chemicals that could damage finishes.
