Side tables placed next to sofas are often called end tables, sofa tables, or couch side tables. You might also hear them referred to as C-shaped tables if they’re designed to slide under the sofa, or accent tables when they’re used for decorative purposes. The exact name can depend on the table’s shape, size, and function, but all of these options are designed to add convenience and style to your living space.

• Consider your space: Narrow or C-shaped side tables are great for small rooms, while larger spaces can handle round or square end tables with shelves.
• Think about function: If you need a spot for drinks, look for tables with sturdy tops. For extra storage, choose ones with shelves or drawers.
• Style matters: Match the table’s finish and design to your sofa and decor for a cohesive look.
• Height: Ideally, the table should be about the same height as your sofa arm for easy access.

There aren’t strict rules, but here are some helpful tips:

• Height: Try to keep the table within 2 inches of your sofa’s arm height for comfort.
• Placement: Place the table close enough for easy reach, but leave enough space to walk around.
• Balance: If you have a large sofa, using two matching side tables can create symmetry.
• Functionality: Choose a table that fits your needs, whether it’s for holding drinks, remotes, or adding extra storage.

1. Choose your materials: You’ll need a sturdy tabletop (like wood or MDF) and legs or a metal frame.
2. Cut to size: Decide on your table’s dimensions based on your sofa’s height and available space.
3. Assemble: Attach the legs or frame to the tabletop securely, following all safety instructions for your tools and materials.
4. Finish: Sand any rough edges and add paint or stain if you’d like.

Always use proper safety gear and follow manufacturer guidelines when working with tools and materials.

• Clean regularly: Wipe surfaces with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and spills. For metal or glass, use appropriate cleaners as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Protect the surface: Use coasters for drinks and avoid placing hot items directly on the table.
• Avoid direct sunlight: Prolonged sun exposure can fade finishes, so try to keep your table out of direct sunlight if possible.
• Check hardware: Periodically tighten screws or bolts to keep the table sturdy and safe to use.
