To find the right screen spline size, you'll want to measure the groove (also called the screen channel) in your window or door frame. Here's how you can do it:

• Remove the old spline, if possible, and measure its diameter with a ruler or caliper.
• If you don't have the old spline, measure the width of the groove itself.
• Check your screen frame's specifications for recommended spline sizes.

Choosing the correct size helps keep your screen tight and secure. If you're unsure, many customers bring a small piece of the old spline to the store for comparison.

A screen spline is a flexible cord that holds window or door screen material securely in place within the frame. Here's how it works:

• The spline fits into a groove along the edge of the frame, pressing the screen mesh tightly against the frame.
• It helps keep the screen taut and prevents it from coming loose over time.
• Splines are commonly made from vinyl, rubber, or foam, and come in different diameters and shapes to fit various frames.

Using the right spline helps keep bugs out and your screen looking neat.

You might need to replace your screen spline if you notice:

• The screen mesh is loose or sagging in the frame.
• The spline feels brittle, cracked, or has lost its flexibility.
• You're installing a new screen mesh or repairing a damaged screen.

Replacing the spline helps maintain a snug fit and extends the life of your window or door screen. It's a good idea to check the spline whenever you do screen maintenance or repairs.

To install screen spline, you'll want to use a spline roller. This tool has a handle and a small wheel that helps press the spline evenly into the frame's groove without damaging the screen mesh. Here's how it helps:

• Makes installation smoother and faster.
• Reduces the chance of tearing the screen material.
• Ensures the spline is seated securely for a tight fit.

Some screen repair kits include a spline roller, but you can also find them in the tools section at Walmart.

It's usually best to use new screen spline when repairing or replacing a screen. Over time, spline can become dry, brittle, or stretched out, which means it might not hold the screen mesh tightly anymore. New spline:

• Provides a better, more secure fit.
• Is easier to work with and less likely to crack.
• Helps your repair last longer.

If the old spline is still flexible and undamaged, you can try reusing it, but many customers prefer starting fresh for the best results.
