Choosing the right size replacement shade can make a big difference in how your lamp looks and works. Here’s what to keep in mind:

• Measure your lamp base: Use a tape measure to check the height and width of your lamp base. Most shades list their top, bottom, and height measurements.
• Match proportions: The shade should be roughly two-thirds the height of the lamp base for a balanced look.
• Check the fitter type: Make sure the shade’s fitter (like spider, clip-on, or uno) matches your lamp’s hardware.

If you’re unsure, bring your old shade’s measurements or a photo when shopping.

Replacement shades come in a variety of materials, each offering a unique look and feel:

• Fabric: Options like linen, cotton, and textured weaves create a soft, cozy glow.
• Glass: Seeded, clear, or art glass shades add a touch of elegance and work well with ceiling fixtures or fans.
• Metal: Metal shades are durable and give a modern or industrial vibe.
• Paper: Rice paper and rattan shades are lightweight and perfect for a boho or casual style.

Consider your room’s decor and how much light you want when picking a material.

Not every shade fits every lamp or fixture, so it’s important to check a few things:

• Fitter compatibility: Shades attach in different ways—spider, clip-on, or uno fitters. Match the fitter type to your lamp.
• Size and weight: Make sure the shade isn’t too heavy or large for your lamp base or ceiling fixture.
• Bulb clearance: There should be enough space between the bulb and the shade to prevent overheating.

Double-check your lamp’s specifications before purchasing a replacement shade.

Keeping your replacement shade looking fresh is simple with a few easy steps:

• Fabric shades: Dust regularly with a soft brush or lint roller. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth—avoid soaking the fabric.
• Glass shades: Remove the shade and wash gently with mild soap and water. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.
• Metal or paper shades: Wipe with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners that could damage the finish.

Always unplug your lamp or turn off the fixture before cleaning.
