Choosing the right trap depends on your space and preferences.

• Live animal traps are great if you want a humane catch-and-release option. They're usually made of sturdy steel and can be reused.
• Glue boards and snap traps are more traditional and work well for indoor use, especially in areas where you’ve seen rodent activity.
• Consider the size of the area and whether you need a discreet or covered trap for safety around pets or kids.

Always follow the instructions for safe and effective use.

Placement is key for success.

• Put traps along walls, behind appliances, or near entry points where you’ve noticed droppings or gnaw marks.
• Pack rats tend to travel along edges, so setting traps flush against walls increases your chances.
• If using multiple traps, space them a few feet apart for broader coverage.

Check traps regularly and avoid placing them in areas accessible to children or pets for safety.

Pack rats are attracted to a variety of foods.

• Try using peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit, or seeds as bait.
• Place a small amount on the trigger area of the trap to encourage the rodent to step on it.
• For glue boards, you can add a dab of bait in the center to increase effectiveness.

Always handle bait and traps with gloves to avoid transferring your scent, which can make rodents wary.

If you’re using a live animal trap, safety is important for both you and the animal.

1. Wear gloves when handling the trap.
2. Transport the trap to a location far from your home, following local guidelines for wildlife release.
3. Open the door carefully and step back to allow the animal to exit on its own.

Never attempt to touch or handle the animal directly, and always wash your hands thoroughly afterward.

Many traps can be reused, but it depends on the type.

• Live animal traps and snap traps are typically designed for multiple uses. Clean them thoroughly with soap and water after each use, wearing gloves for safety.
• Glue boards are usually single-use and should be disposed of once they’ve caught a rodent.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and reuse to maintain effectiveness and safety.
