Rats have a strong sense of smell and tend to avoid certain scents. Common odors that may help deter them include peppermint oil, ammonia, and vinegar. Some people also use mothballs or citronella, but it's important to use these substances safely and keep them out of reach of children and pets. While these smells can make your space less inviting to rats, they may not solve an existing infestation. For best results, combine scent deterrents with traps or other pest control methods available at Walmart.

Signs of rats in your home can include:

• Droppings: Small, dark pellets often found near food or along walls.
• Gnaw marks: Chewed wires, wood, or packaging.
• Noises: Scratching or scurrying sounds, especially at night.
• Tracks: Greasy marks or footprints along baseboards.
• Nests: Shredded paper or fabric in hidden areas.

If you notice these signs, consider using traps or baits to help manage the problem.

To address a rat problem quickly, try these steps:

1. Set multiple traps: Place glue traps or bait stations in areas where you've seen activity.
2. Remove food sources: Store food in sealed containers and clean up crumbs or spills promptly.
3. Seal entry points: Block holes or gaps in walls, floors, and around pipes.

Combining these methods can help reduce rat activity, but results may vary depending on the situation. Always follow product instructions for safe use.

Rats can pose several risks in the home. They may chew on wires, which could lead to electrical issues, and their droppings can contaminate food or surfaces. Additionally, rats can carry parasites or germs. It's important to address any signs of rats promptly and use safe pest control solutions. If you have concerns about health or safety, consider reaching out to a pest control professional for further guidance.

To use glue traps effectively:

• Place traps: Set glue traps along walls, behind appliances, or in areas where you've noticed rat activity.
• Avoid dusty spots: Clean the area first so the adhesive stays sticky.
• Check regularly: Inspect traps daily and dispose of them according to package instructions if a rat is caught.

Always keep glue traps away from children and pets, and wash your hands after handling traps or rodents.
