Cat 7 Ethernet cables offer high speeds and shielding, but for most home networks, they're often more than you need. Most home internet connections and devices work well with Cat 5e or Cat 6 cables, which support fast speeds and are easier to install. Cat 7 is typically used in commercial settings or for future-proofing a network. If you're wiring a smart home or need top speeds for gaming or streaming, Cat 7 can be a good choice, but it's not required for standard internet use.

It's possible to connect two devices to a single Ethernet wall box, but you'll need the right equipment. Using a network switch or a dual-port surface mount box can help split the connection without losing speed or reliability. Avoid using simple splitters, as they can cause network issues. For best results, install a network switch near your wall box and run separate cables to each device. This setup helps maintain strong connections for both devices.

The 5-4-3 rule is a guideline from older Ethernet standards, especially for coaxial cable networks. It means you can have up to 5 network segments connected by 4 repeaters, with only 3 segments populated with devices. This rule helped keep signals strong and reliable. Modern Ethernet networks using switches and wall boxes don't usually need to follow this rule, but it's a fun bit of networking history if you're curious about how things used to work!

When choosing a network wall box, consider these features:

• Number of Ports: Pick a box with enough ports for your current and future devices.
• Compatibility: Make sure it fits your cable type (Cat5e, Cat6, etc.).
• Mounting Style: Decide if you need a surface-mount or in-wall option.
• Build Quality: Look for sturdy materials to protect your connections.
• Cable Management: Some boxes include features to keep cables tidy and organized.

These factors can help you set up a reliable and neat home or office network.

Keeping cables organized is easier with a wall-mounted network box. Here are some tips:

• Use cable ties or Velcro straps to bundle wires neatly.
• Choose a box with built-in cable management features, like brush openings or clips.
• Label each cable for quick identification and easier troubleshooting.
• Keep power cords and data cables separate to reduce interference.
• Plan your layout before installation to avoid tangled wires.

These steps can make your setup look clean and help with maintenance down the road.
