Choosing the right locking clip depends on your vehicle and what you need to secure. Start by checking the size and type of part you want to lock—like a seat belt, trailer hitch, or door rod. Measure the diameter and length needed, and look for compatibility details in the product description. If you’re securing something outdoors, consider clips with rust protection or weatherproof features. For added security, some locking clips come with keys or anti-theft designs. If you’re unsure, you can always check your vehicle manual or ask a Walmart associate for guidance.

Locking clips serve a variety of purposes in vehicles.

• They help secure seat belts, keeping them in the right position for comfort and safety.
• Locking hitch pins are used to attach trailers or bike racks to your vehicle’s hitch, preventing accidental detachment or theft.
• Some clips hold door rods, fuel tank rings, or other interior and exterior parts in place.
• Others are designed for quick-release applications, like securing bumpers or toolboxes.

Most locking clips are designed for straightforward installation.

1. First, identify the part you need to secure and ensure the clip fits the size and shape.
2. Many clips simply snap or slide into place, while others may require tightening with a hand knob or using a key.
3. Some automotive clips may need basic tools, like pliers, for a secure fit.

Whether a locking clip can be reused depends on its material and design.

• Metal locking clips and hitch pins are typically reusable, as they’re built for durability and repeated use.
• Plastic clips, like those for tarps or seat covers, can often be reused if they aren’t damaged during removal.
• Some specialty clips, especially those designed for one-time security seals, may not be intended for reuse.

Proper care can help your locking clips last longer.

• After use, wipe off any dirt, moisture, or road salt to prevent rust or corrosion, especially on metal clips.
• Store clips in a dry, organized spot—like a toolbox or glove compartment—so they’re easy to find and protected from the elements.
• If your clips have moving parts or keys, check them occasionally for smooth operation.
