In crafting, hotfix refers to embellishments like rhinestones, studs, or crystals that have a heat-activated adhesive on the back. When you apply heat—usually with a hotfix applicator tool or iron—the adhesive melts and bonds the decoration to fabric, leather, or other surfaces. This method is popular for adding sparkle to clothes, accessories, and DIY projects. Hotfix items are designed for easy, mess-free application, making them a favorite for crafters looking to personalize their creations.

• Hotfix: Uses heat to attach small embellishments like rhinestones or studs directly to surfaces. The adhesive is already on the item, so you just heat and press.
• Patch: Usually a larger piece of fabric or material with a design. It can be sewn or ironed onto clothing or accessories. Iron-on patches use heat, but they cover a bigger area and often require extra adhesive or stitching for durability.

Both methods personalize items, but hotfix is ideal for detailed, scattered decorations, while patches are best for bold, visible designs.

Choosing between glue and hotfix rhinestones depends on your project and materials:

• Hotfix rhinestones are great for fabrics and surfaces that can handle heat. They offer a cleaner, faster application since the adhesive is built in and activated by heat.
• Glue-on rhinestones work well for surfaces that can't be heated, like paper or delicate materials. You need to apply glue manually, which can be messier and requires drying time.

Hotfix is preferred for clothing and fabric crafts, while glue is better for non-fabric projects or heat-sensitive items.

1. Plug in the hotfix applicator tool and let it heat up according to the instructions.
2. Choose the right tip for the size of your rhinestone or embellishment.
3. Pick up a hotfix rhinestone with the applicator tip or tweezers.
4. Place the rhinestone adhesive-side down on your fabric or project surface.
5. Hold the applicator over the rhinestone for a few seconds to activate the adhesive.

Always follow safety guidelines and check your material’s heat tolerance before starting. This process can help you create custom designs with ease.

Yes, hotfix rhinestones can be applied to surfaces like leather and paper, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

• Leather: Most types can handle the heat needed for hotfix application. Test a small area first to avoid damage.
• Paper: Thin or delicate paper may warp or scorch with heat. Use a low setting and apply quickly, or consider glue-on rhinestones for paper crafts.

Always check the material’s heat resistance and start with a test patch to ensure the best results.
