These days, what used to be called "girdles" are more commonly known as shapewear, body shapers, or waist trainers. You'll see terms like tummy control briefs, high-waisted shapers, or compression garments. The designs have evolved to offer more comfort and versatility, but the main goal remains the same: to help smooth and shape your silhouette under clothing. When browsing Walmart, you'll find a variety of styles for different needs, including postpartum support, workout waist trainers, and everyday shaping options.

A girdle is a type of undergarment designed to provide gentle compression and shaping around the waist, stomach, and sometimes the hips or thighs. Here’s what it typically does:

• Smooths the appearance of your midsection under clothes
• Offers support for posture and back comfort
• Helps clothing fit more comfortably by reducing bulges

Modern girdles come in various styles, from high-waisted shorts to full bodysuits, so you can pick what works best for your outfit and comfort level.

Absolutely, many people still choose to wear girdles—though today, they’re often called shapewear or waist trainers. These garments are popular for special occasions, everyday wear, or even workouts. Some people like the extra support and smooth look they provide under dresses or fitted clothing. With so many styles available at Walmart, it’s easy to find options that fit different body types and preferences, whether you want light smoothing or firm control.

Choosing the right size is key for comfort and effectiveness. Here’s how to find your fit:

1. Check the size chart on the product page—sizes can vary by brand and style.
2. Measure your waist and hips with a soft tape measure for accuracy.
3. Consider your goals: For everyday comfort, go with your usual size. For firmer shaping, some people size down, but be cautious—too tight can be uncomfortable.

If you’re between sizes, it’s usually best to size up for comfort. And remember, Walmart’s return policy makes it easy to exchange if needed.

To help your shapewear or girdle last longer, it’s best to:

• Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent
• Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, which can damage elastic fibers
• Lay flat to dry instead of using a dryer, as heat can break down stretch materials

Some items may be machine washable on a gentle cycle, but always check the care label first. Following these steps can help keep your girdle in good shape for repeated wear.
