While mouthguards aren't always required in flag football, they're highly recommended for protecting your teeth and mouth during play. Accidental contact, like a stray elbow or a fall, can happen even in non-contact sports. Wearing a mouthguard adds a layer of safety, helping reduce the risk of dental injuries. Many leagues encourage or require them, especially for youth players. It's a simple way to play with more confidence and peace of mind, so consider picking one up before your next game.

Some flag football mouthguards have a design that resembles a pacifier because of their lip guard feature. This style helps protect not just your teeth but also your lips from impacts. The larger front area acts as a cushion, especially useful in sports where accidental contact can occur. Plus, these designs often make it easier to breathe and communicate on the field. They're popular among players who want both comfort and extra protection during games.

Flag football players wear mouthguards mainly to help protect their teeth, lips, and gums from accidental bumps and collisions. Even though flag football is less physical than tackle football, unexpected contact can still happen. A mouthguard acts as a barrier, reducing the risk of chipped teeth or cuts inside the mouth. It also gives players more confidence to focus on the game, knowing they're taking steps to help prevent common sports injuries.

• Rinse your mouthguard with cool water after each use to remove debris.
• Gently brush it with a toothbrush and mild soap—avoid hot water, which can warp the material.
• Let it air dry completely before storing it in a ventilated case.
• Regularly check for signs of wear or damage and replace as needed.

Keeping your mouthguard clean helps it last longer and keeps it fresh for every game or practice.

Choosing the right size mouthguard is important for comfort and protection. Most options come in youth and adult sizes, so start by checking the age or size guidelines on the packaging. Look for a snug fit that covers your teeth and stays in place without constant adjustment. Some mouthguards are designed to fit over braces or can be molded for a custom feel. If you're unsure, try one with an adjustable or boil-and-bite design for a more personalized fit.
