Elevator keys come in different shapes and sizes, depending on the elevator model and manufacturer. While many use a triangular or square design, there isn’t a single universal key that fits every elevator. Before purchasing, check your elevator’s specifications or consult with your building’s maintenance team to ensure you’re getting the right key. Some keys are designed for emergency access, while others are for maintenance or cabinet locks, so matching the key type to your specific need is important for proper use and safety.

Elevator keys are typically intended for use by authorized personnel, such as building managers, maintenance staff, or emergency responders. Local laws and building codes may restrict who can use or possess these keys. If you’re unsure about the regulations in your area, it’s a good idea to check with your property manager or local authorities before purchasing. Using elevator keys without proper authorization could violate safety rules or building policies, so always prioritize safety and compliance.

You can find replacement elevator keys at retailers like Walmart, both online and in select stores.

• Search for the specific type of key you need, such as a triangular or square utility key.
• Check the product details to match your elevator’s requirements.
• If you’re unsure, consult your building’s maintenance team or refer to your elevator’s manual for guidance.

Elevator keys go by several names, depending on their function and design. Common terms include triangular elevator key, utility key, spanner key, or cabinet key. Some are also referred to as emergency release keys or maintenance keys. When searching, using these terms can help you find the right product for your needs. Always check the key’s compatibility with your elevator or cabinet before purchasing.

To pick the right elevator key, start by identifying your elevator’s brand and model.

• Check your elevator’s manual or look for markings near the lock.
• Consult with your building’s maintenance staff for advice.
• Review product descriptions to match the key shape—like triangular or square—to your elevator’s lock.
