Drawstring Fastener(489)

You’ll hear a few names for it, and they’re all common in sewing and outdoor gear:

• Cord lock or cord stopper – the general terms
• Toggle or spring toggle – highlights the spring-loaded action
• Barrel lock – describes the rounded shape some styles have
• Slider – another way to say adjustable clamp

They come in single-hole (one cord) and double-hole (two cords) designs, with plastic or metal housings. If you’re shopping, consider the hole size for your cord, whether you want a lighter plastic option or a more robust metal option, and the shape that’s easiest to pinch. You can browse a range of styles online and choose delivery or pickup where available.

It’s simply how a drawstring is adjusted and secured on clothing, bags, and gear. The cord threads through a channel, then a fastener helps hold the tension so it stays where you set it.

1. Press the spring on the cord lock or toggle.
2. Slide it along the cord to loosen or tighten.
3. Release to hold the position; a stopper or knot can keep it from pulling through.

You’ll see this on hoodies, backpacks, and more. The setup can use a spring-loaded cord lock, a simple knot, or a cord end that adds grip. Choosing a lock that fits your cord diameter can help it hold better, but results may vary based on cord material and wear.

The tips are often called aglets on shoelaces, and in apparel and craft supplies you’ll also see cord ends, end caps, or end stoppers.

• Aglet/Cord end: A cap that covers the end to reduce fraying and make threading easier.
• End stopper: Sometimes larger and decorative, and may add grip for pulling.
• Cord end lock: Some ends include a small clamp function, though most locking is done by separate cord locks.

Ends come in plastic and metal styles and may be slip-on, crimp-on, or screw-on. When choosing replacements, match the inner diameter to your cord, and pick a finish and shape that suits your garment or bag.

It depends on the piece:

• If it slides and clamps the cord, it’s typically a metal cord lock, toggle, or cord stopper. Many use a spring-loaded plunger.
• If it’s the cap on the end of the string, it’s a metal aglet, cord end, or end cap.

To tell which you need, check the function: a lock compresses and releases to adjust tension; an end cap simply finishes the tip. When shopping, consider single- vs. double-hole locks, hole diameter, and the finish (e.g., matte black, silver, or gold tone). Metal options may offer a more durable feel, but suitable choice can vary by use and environment.

Match the lock to your cord’s thickness and how you’ll use it.

1. Measure the cord diameter (ideally in millimeters).
2. Check product specs for hole size or “fits up to” guidance.
3. Allow a little clearance—a hole slightly larger than the cord (e.g., ~0.5–1 mm) usually feeds more smoothly.
4. Choose hole count: single-hole for one cord, double-hole to route two cords separately.
5. Consider spring strength and shape for grip, especially on thicker cords or outdoor use.

Product pages typically list dimensions to help you compare. If you’re between sizes, selecting the next size up can make threading easier, and adding a small knot behind the lock can help prevent pull-through.
