Picking a size depends on the area you want to mend and the loom’s hook count.

• Measure the damaged spot and add about 0.5–1 inch for a margin.
• Lower hook counts (around 10–12) suit small holes and socks.
• Mid-size looms (about 14–21 hooks) fit everyday mending on shirts and jeans.
• Higher counts (around 28 hooks) can cover wider denim patches.
• Consider a darning egg or mushroom for curved areas like heels or elbows.
• Compact looms are more portable; larger frames offer more working space.

Check item details for dimensions and layout. Comfort with a size can vary, so a little practice helps you find your sweet spot.

Kits can vary, but many include helpful basics to start mending.

• A mini loom with a wooden base or disc and metal hooks.
• A darning mushroom or egg to support curved areas.
• Needles and a threading tool; sometimes a small comb or beater.
• Rubber bands or clips to help with tensioning.
• Starter threads in assorted colors (varies by kit).
• Basic instructions and, in some cases, a storage pouch.

Contents differ by listing, so review the product description and photos to confirm what’s included. If you’re new, look for beginner-friendly kits with clear setup guidance and manageable hook counts.

A loom can create a neat woven patch that blends with denim.

1. Trim loose fibers and, if you like, stabilize the area from the inside.
2. Mount the denim on the loom and secure tension with bands or clips.
3. Lay warp threads across the hole using the hooks.
4. Weave weft threads over and under with a needle, building a grid.
5. Release the fabric, secure thread ends, and lightly press.

Thicker denim may benefit from sturdy thread and mending in smaller sections. Test your approach on a scrap and follow any instructions included with your kit. Results can vary based on denim weight and technique.

Darning looms can suit a range of everyday fabrics.

• They generally work well on medium-weight cotton, denim, and wool knits.
• Common spots include socks, cuffs, elbows, and jean knees.
• Use gentle tension on stretchy knits to reduce puckering.
• For delicate weaves, try fine thread and fewer hooks.
• Very thin or slippery fabrics can be trickier—testing on a scrap helps.

Performance depends on fabric thickness and thread selection. Adjust hook count, tension, and stitch density to match the material and the look you’re after.

Simple upkeep can help your loom stay in good shape.

• Wipe the wooden base or disc with a dry cloth after use.
• Store hooks, needles, and bands in a pouch to prevent loss.
• Keep the kit away from moisture and extreme heat.
• Check that hooks aren’t bent; gently realign if needed.
• Handle sharp tools carefully and keep them out of reach of children.

Periodic inspection and safe storage can support long-term use. If your kit includes care instructions, follow those for more specific guidance.
