A cone-shaped strainer is commonly known as a chinois or bouillon strainer. These strainers have a conical design and a fine mesh, making them ideal for filtering sauces, soups, juices, and purees. The shape helps direct liquids efficiently while catching solids and seeds. You'll find cone strainers in various sizes and mesh types, so they're handy for both home cooks and professionals. If you're looking for one, check out the kitchen tools section at Walmart for a range of options that suit different cooking needs.

• Shape: Cone strainers have a pointed, conical design, while basket strainers are typically round and bowl-shaped.
• Function: Cone strainers are great for fine filtering and directing liquids, especially for sauces and purees. Basket strainers are better for draining larger items like pasta or vegetables.
• Mesh: Cone strainers often feature finer mesh for smoother results, whereas basket strainers may have larger holes for faster draining.
• Usage: Choose a cone strainer when you need precision, and a basket strainer for everyday rinsing or draining tasks.

When you're using a cone strainer, the pointed end should face downward, allowing liquids to flow through the mesh and collect in a bowl or pot below. The wider opening sits at the top, making it easy to pour or ladle ingredients in. This setup helps direct the flow and ensures efficient straining. Many cone strainers come with handles or hooks to stabilize them over containers, so you can work hands-free and avoid spills.

• Consider your recipes: If you often strain small amounts like tea or juice, a smaller cone strainer works well. For soups, sauces, or larger batches, go for a bigger size.
• Check your cookware: Make sure the strainer fits comfortably over your bowls or pots.
• Storage: Smaller strainers are easier to store, while larger ones may require more space.
• Multi-size sets: Some sets include several sizes, giving you flexibility for different tasks.

1. Rinse right away: After use, rinse the strainer under warm water to remove food particles.
2. Use a soft brush: Gently scrub the mesh with a brush or sponge to clear out any stuck bits.
3. Soak if needed: For stubborn residue, soak the strainer in soapy water for a few minutes.
4. Dry thoroughly: Let it air dry or pat it dry with a towel to prevent rust, especially if it’s stainless steel.

Regular cleaning helps keep your cone strainer working well and ready for your next kitchen project.
