Choosing the right size clevis hook depends on your chain size and the job you need it for. Here’s what to consider:

• Match Chain Size: Make sure the hook fits the diameter of your chain for a secure connection.
• Check Working Load Limit (WLL): Look for the WLL rating on the product page and ensure it meets or exceeds your load requirements.
• Application: For towing, lifting, or securing cargo, select a hook rated for your intended use. If you’re unsure, check your equipment manual or consult with a professional for guidance.

Grab hooks and slip hooks serve different purposes:

• Grab Hooks: Designed to "grab" a chain link, letting you shorten or secure a chain without slipping. They’re great for tie-downs and load binding.
• Slip Hooks: Feature a wider throat and often include a safety latch. They allow the chain to move freely, making them ideal for towing or lifting where the hook needs to slide along the chain.

Choose based on whether you need a fixed connection (grab) or more flexibility (slip).

Many clevis hooks are designed for heavy-duty tasks, but it’s important to:

• Check the Grade: Higher grades (like Grade 70 or 100) typically support heavier loads.
• Review the Working Load Limit: Never exceed the WLL listed for the hook.
• Inspect Before Use: Always examine hooks for signs of wear or damage before lifting.

For overhead lifting, only use hooks specifically rated and marked for that purpose. When in doubt, consult the product details or a qualified professional.

Attaching a clevis hook is straightforward:

1. Remove the clevis pin from the hook.
2. Insert the end link of your chain into the hook’s opening.
3. Reinsert the pin and secure it with the cotter pin or latch, if included.

Always double-check that the pin is fully seated and locked before applying any load. This helps prevent accidental release during use.

Proper care extends the life of your clevis hooks:

• Clean After Use: Wipe off dirt, moisture, and debris to prevent rust.
• Inspect Regularly: Look for cracks, bends, or excessive wear before each use.
• Store in a Dry Place: Keep hooks in a toolbox or on a rack away from moisture.
• Avoid Overloading: Using hooks within their rated capacity helps prevent damage.

Routine maintenance helps ensure safety and reliability for every job.
