A brad in a folder is a small fastener—often metal—with foldable prongs mounted along the center spine. It threads through hole‑punched pages to keep them together inside the folder.

• Purpose: Secure multi‑page packets so they don’t slide out of the pockets.
• How to use: Open the prongs, place hole‑punched sheets on the posts, then fold the prongs over. You can reopen them to add or reorder pages.
• Common setup: Many two‑pocket folders include brads for extra security.

Designs can vary, so it’s helpful to review product photos and descriptions to confirm the fastener style that meets your needs.

In this category, “brads” and “prongs” are usually used interchangeably to describe the page‑holding fastener inside the folder.

• Brads: A common term for the fastener assembly that holds papers.
• Prongs: The flexible arms you fold down over hole‑punched sheets.
• Function: Both terms relate to securing pages; pockets handle loose handouts.
• Variations: Fasteners may be metal or plastic, and the layout can differ by folder.

Terminology can vary by manufacturer, so checking the product images and description is a good way to confirm the exact fastener style you prefer.

Pick a folder with brads when you want pages to stay fixed and in order, not just tucked in pockets.

• Class packets and reports: Helpful for syllabi, homework sets, or handouts that should stay together.
• Presentations: Keeps a clean sequence for proposals or meeting materials.
• Take‑home folders: Reduces the chance of pages sliding out in a backpack.
• Light reorganization: You can open and close the prongs to add or rearrange pages as needed.

If you only carry a few loose sheets, a pocket‑only folder might be enough. Checking dimensions and fastener details can help you match the folder to your workload.

It’s possible to pair brad folders with binders, depending on the folder’s spine.

• Three‑hole punched folders: Many options include 3 holes along the edge so you can clip the entire folder into a standard binder.
• No pre‑punched holes: You can place the folder into a binder sleeve or pocket instead of the rings.
• Fit tips: Choose letter‑size folders for U.S. binders and avoid overfilling so the folder closes smoothly.

Product descriptions often call out “3‑hole” compatibility. Site filters can help you find binder‑friendly options and choose pickup or delivery at checkout.

Paper size compatibility depends on the specific folder.

• Letter size: Many listings here are designed for 8.5 × 11 in sheets and may show dimensions around 9.4–11.7 in to cover edges.
• A4 options: Some items indicate A4 sizing, which is slightly taller and narrower than U.S. letter.
• What to check: Titles, dimensions, and photos (like sheet size callouts) can help confirm the fit before checkout.

If you work with different paper sizes, choosing folders labeled for your main paper size can keep everyday filing and binder use more consistent.
