Choosing the right binding strip width depends on your project and fabric thickness. Here are a few tips:

• For quilts or thicker fabrics: Wider strips (like 7/8") can make handling corners and edges easier.
• For clothing or lighter crafts: Narrower strips (such as 1/2") often blend in better and create a neat finish.
• Always check your pattern instructions, as they may recommend a specific width for best results.

Consider the look you want and the fabric layers you'll be binding to help you decide.

Single and double fold bias tapes serve different purposes in sewing:

• Single fold: Folded once, it's great for finishing raw edges or as a decorative trim. It’s usually less bulky and works well for lightweight projects.
• Double fold: Folded twice, it completely encloses the fabric edge, making it ideal for quilts, blankets, and items that need extra durability.

Double fold bias tape is often preferred for projects that get a lot of use or washing, while single fold is perfect for lighter, decorative touches.

Binding strips are designed for sewing, but you can use them creatively in no-sew projects too. Here are some ideas:

• Attach with fabric glue or double-sided tape for quick trims on crafts like banners or scrapbooks.
• Wrap around gift boxes or jars for a decorative touch.
• Use as ties or bows for handmade cards or party favors.

While sewing gives the most secure finish, binding strips can add color and style to many no-sew crafts.

To help prevent binding strips from fraying at the ends, try these tips:

• Fold the raw edge under before sewing it down for a clean finish.
• Use a small dab of fabric glue or fray check on the ends.
• Cut the ends at a slight angle to reduce unraveling.

These methods can help your projects look neat and last longer, especially after washing or frequent use.

Most binding strips made from cotton or polyester blends are machine washable, making them suitable for quilts, clothing, and other washable items. For best results:

• Follow the care instructions on your main fabric and binding strip packaging.
• Use gentle cycles and mild detergent to help maintain color and shape.
• Air drying can help reduce shrinkage and keep edges crisp.

Always test a small piece if you’re unsure how the material will react to washing.
