I had one of these about 30 years ago, put it in trunk of my car, and the handle rotted. Read the review about sanding the handle down and oiling. This thing looks awesome now, and no more worries about the leather rotting. This is one of the best hatchets out there now.

The quality of the hatchet was very good. I wanted a hatchet with a sheath so I bought this one. I wondered if the handle would be too slick. I've have used it and it doesn't appear to be. The sheath is better than I expected. Other reviews that I read said the edge needed sharpening when they got it but mine appeard okay. I sharpen them when I get them anyway. I painted the metal parts of the handle and the head (not the edge area) brilliant red/orange so it can be found easily. My children have lost or misplaced other hatchets and axes for me.
