This is very nice looking 1000 watt microwave oven. It is only 1.1 cubic feet, so keep that in mind. This is generally adequate for my needs. The first thing I did was read the instructions. There were only seven actual pages of instructions, but these few pages cover all the operations very nicely. It was easy to read and understand. You will be familiar with this oven in no time. I did a few measurements on this unit. First, I heated a cup of water (about 12oz) for one minute and twenty seconds. I compared this with another microwave rated at 1200 watts. The temperature of the water was 136 degrees for the Hamilton verses 148 for the other microwave, which seems about right. I also checked out the “quick cook buttons.” For “Beverage,” you push twice for 8 ounces. The oven ran for two minutes and heated the water to about 200 degrees. This might good for making pour over coffee, but is way too hot to drink without cooling. Similarly, the “Reheat” button ran the microwave for two minutes and thirty-six seconds; the “Frozen Dinner” button ran the microwave for four minutes and fifty-seven seconds; the “Pizza” option ran the microwave for 37 seconds; the “Popcorn” option ran the microwave for 2 minutes and 25 seconds, but displayed 3.5 before starting – perhaps this means it ran the power at 35 percent. Finally “Potato” ran the microwave for five minutes and fifty-seven seconds. Generally I do not use these quick options as it really depends on the portion size of the food. I just select a time based on prior experience – this works best for me. The microwave has “Express Cook” times of one through six minutes which is a nice feature. You can easily set power levels (there are ten), there is a defrost option (runs at 30 percent power), a kitchen timer, and it has a built-in clock. Overall, I found this microwave easy to operate. I really have no complaints. One thing I noticed in the reviews of this oven, was the number of one and two star reviews. This is of concern to me as it was higher than other brands in the same price range that had a significant number of reviews. It could just be that more people who had problems actually bothered to post a review, whereas many people who had no issues simply did not post. This can skew the ratings. I don’t know, but I won’t know the reliability until I use it for a lengthy period of time. On the positive side, there is a one year warranty, and the customer support number is found on the bottom of every page of the instructions.
