Joel Brown is a guitarist who resides in many musical worlds. His work with Chris Brubeck and Peter Madcat Ruth has produced three critically acclaimed CDs, and have taken him to 46 states and beyond for concert tours. The trio has appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival, with the Boston Pops Orchestra, and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra to name just a few. Their newest release, 'Chris Brubeck's Triple Play-Live at Aurther Zankel Music Center', features Joel's father Frank on clarinet, and the legendary jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck. But Brown's work as a classical musician is also well known, with CD releases such as 'Five Premiers-Chamber Works with Guitar', 'Chords and Thyme' with guitarist Edward Flower, and 'Bach to Brubeck' with the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. As a classical guitarist, he has performed at the Tanglewood Festival, with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, at Carnegie Hall, and the Guitar Foundation of America Festival. Joel's new release is long over due set that features him as singer-songwriter. 'Places' is collection of songs written and co-written by Brown, and one very special cover nod to his musical heros John, Paul, George and Ringo. Produced by former Blotto member Dave Maswick, the CD covers acres of musical ground, from folky three part harmonies, to soulful ballads, to full-tilt-horn-driven rock and roll. The guest musicians include Joel's father Frank, sister Linn, guitar giant Chuck D'Aloia, harmonica virtuoso Peter Madcat Ruth, producer, Dave Maswick, soulman Garland Nelson, and many more. Joel Brown is a Senior Artist in Residence in classical guitar and Chair of the Music Department at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
