This hexbug ant is made of plastic and tiny pieces. Battery came already incerted. Recommend buying the 2pkg batteries tgat they sell seperately. works pretty well on smooth surfaces only. Can get pretty dirty if it comes in xontact with dust or dirt. My son loves it
