Gene Kelly Collection (Box Set) [DVD]

First off, these movies originally were shown before the current rating system. All movies of the 1940s and 1950s were equal to today's G or PG rating. But because this DVD is "unrated," Walmart reacts as though these family-oriented musicals are X-rated and I was asked if I was an adult in order to purchase them. Note to Walmart: "unrated DVDs" prior to a rating system do NOT equal X-rated movies. All four movies star Gene Kelly with dance partners including Vera Ellen and Judy Garland. "On the Town" is based on the Leonard Bernstein Broadway musical, although many of the original songs have been cut and new songs added. "Invitation to the Dance" is comprised of various dance numbers throughout. "Summer Stock" is one of those famous let's-get-together-and-put-on-a-show musicals with Judy Garland as the lead. "For Me and My Gal" takes a more serious musical note as it traces the lives of two vaudevillians, also portrayed by Garland and Kelly, through war and peace. There are four DVDs in this single package, all placed on one spindle.

Gene Kelly and dance fans will enjoy these movies. Invitation to the Dance is a unique movie comprised of music, dance, mime, cartoon scenes, and no talk. Very entertaining!
