Fearless

Key item features

Up to the moment when Fearless was released, it was not easy to gauge which path Jazmine Sullivan would take. Jive spent three years trying to figure it out and dropped her before any material officially surfaced. She co-wrote a number four club hit ("Say I") for Christina Milian, recorded with Kindred the Family Soul and Fantasia, contributed adult-oriented R&B tracks to a handful of low-key compilations, signed to J, and notched a number one R&B/hip-hop single with the yearning/swaggering "Need U Bad." Was she a pop songwriter, a young member of the "grown folks R&B" division, or a young Lauryn Hill? Charting all her moves, it seemed like she was trying out a number of styles to find some footing, but with Fearless, it is clear she is comfortable in each mode. Within the span of 45 minutes, Sullivan switches between a number of tacks, both stylistically and emotionally, each one flush with conviction, and not just for the sake of variety. Amidst the orchestral backdrop of "Bust Your Windows" and the rushing breakbeat of "Call Me Guilty," she's clear about not being one to cross without expecting payback, whether it results in property damage or self-defense bloodshed. "Dream Big," a swallow-you-whole four-four thumper, is an ambitious motivational anthem -- Missy Elliott nicks nearly all of its drive and dramatics from Daft Punk's "Veridis Quo" -- while "Fear" looks inward with a disarming level of sincerity (Salaam Remi connects the hook from Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her" to Anne Dudley's piano outro from the Art of Noise's "Beatbox," the album's most clever production trick). Some tracks are throwbacks through and through, like the peppy "One Night Stand" (where she fronts a girl group) and the aching "In Love with Another Man" (a tear-the-house-down ballad). There's a lot of range on display here, and there is just as much depth. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

JAZMINE WHERE HAVE U BEEN?!?!

JAZ IS A GREAT NEW COMER. "I NEED U BAD" IS THE 1ST SINGLE FORM THE CD, WHICH HAD ME WANTING 2 BUY HER CD. AFTER LISTNING 2 IT, I FOUND THAT SHE HAS A VOICE LIKE NO ONE I'VE HEARD. I MEAN SHE'S LIKE BRANDY BUT SHE HAS LIKE A GOSPEL TWIST 2 HER VOICE 2 LIKE KIM BURELL. C, A VOICE VERY HARD 2 DESCRIBE. BUT I LLOOVVEE IITT!! "I'M N LOVE WITH ANOTHER MAN" IS SSOOO DEEP. SHE SINGS THIS SONG FROM HER HEART. MY FAV I HAVE 2 SAY. "GUILTY" N "BUST YO WIMDOWS" R ALSO A COUPLE OF TRACKS THAT HAD MY ATTENTION FROM THE START. SHE ALSO HAS A LOT OF OLD SCHOOL TUNES N BEATS 2 MOST OF HER SONGS. THEY R A GREAT ADDTION 2 THE CD THO. SHE DOES A LOT ON THIS CD. THIS ISN'T UR TYPICAL R&B CD. BUT SHE'S NOT ALL POP EITHER. U JUZ GOTTA LISTEN 2 THE CD. BUT OVER ALL, I THINK THIS IS A GREAT CD. HOPEFULLY SHE'S NOT ANOTHER ONE HIT WONDER.

Finally...A Great R&B album from start to finish!

Jazmine Sullivan has did a phenomenal job with her debut album with her creative lyrics which shines throughout the entire album! The album is an instant classic! Jazmine Sullivan showcases the sunny and dark side of being in love which many people can relate to in this day and age! Great standout songs include "Bust Your Windows", Foolish Heart", Call Me Guilty", "Living a Lie", "Fear" and the intense ballads "In Love With Another Man and "After the Hurricane", Lions, Tigers and Bears", and of course the number 1 hit "I Need You Bad"."

BRILLIANT!!!!

OMG!!! I waited soooo long for this CD! When I first heard her song 'I Need U Bad' I began researching her online and found a lot of music she was singing before signing and a couple of remakes. This young woman is truly gifted with a talent that simply blows me away. She's so young so she has so much room to grow and we all know that means growth to great! Look at Mary J. Blige she started so young and look at that woman now! Jazzy you are a the epitome of what an artist should be. Her music comes from the soul of TRUE LIFE. I love it! I wasn't expecting some of the style of music nevertheless I was more than pleased with the album!
